Regulations for the Schools of the Faculty:
Management Sciences and French. Management Sciences and German. Management Sciences and Spanish combined into Management Science and Modern Languages.
  1. In the first year ( Part I) eight subjects will be studied and examined as follows:
    Semester one:
    AM103, an approved Economics unit, AM109, 1 language unit from French, German or Spanish.
    Semester two:
    AM106, Language unit, Language Department subject, AM108. Note: Students are required to pass all language papers before gaining entry to year 2

  2. Year 2 (revised regulations will apply in 2002/3)
    Semester one:
    AM201, AM207 One language unit from French, German or Spanish. One Language Department subject.
    Semester two:
    AM230, one unit from EC102 (if EC101 taken), EC104 (if EC103 taken), AM202, AM204, AM208, AM222, AM228. One language unit from French, German or Spanish. One Language Department subject.

    Note: Students are required to pass all language papers before gaining entry to year 3. If not they must transfer to Management Sciences and take AM308 if they have not taken this in their second year. They may not take a language unit in the language they have failed in.

  3. Students will normally be required to spend Year 3 abroad
    1. on a SOCRATES exchange placement with one of the Department of Management's linked Universities;
    2. on a SOCRATES exchange placement with one of the School of Modern Languages' linked Universities;
    3. otherwise as a University Student;
    4. in commerce or industry;
    They are required to complete a dissertation in their chosen language and other specified study.

  4. Year 4
    Semester one:
    One language unit from French, German or Spanish. One Language Department subject.
    Semester two:
    One language unit from French, German or Spanish. One Language Department subject.
    Both semesters:
    Four units from AM302, AM305, AM308, AM311, AM312, AM315, AM318, AM319, AM322, AM323, AM327, AM328, AM329, AM331, ST304, AM390. Students are not obliged to do a project under these regulations as they have already taken a language dissertation in their year abroad. Project (two units AM398/399) or Contemporary Problems (one unit AM390) may be taken as part of the Social Sciences options. A technical language may be taken instead of one of the Social Sciences or Language units.
