Regulations for the Schools of the Faculty:
Politics and Sociology
  1. In the first year (Part I) eight subjects will be studied and examined as follows:
    Semester one:
    PO101, SS101, ST107, plus one other subject selected from the Social Sciences list:
    Semester two:
    SS102, PO102, plus two other units (subject to prerequisites) selected from the following:

  2. Year 2
    Semester one:
    SS201, PO251 and either PO207 or PO203, plus one unit from: SS203-SS207.
    Semester two:
    PO252, ST222, plus one unit from SS202-SS222 (excluding SS218), one unit from PO Year 2 courses.

    Note: In either semester candidates may select in lieu of an optional subject a unit from any other Social Sciences list (subject to prerequisites), provided that only two such units may be taken in years 2 and 3 overall. Where two such units are selected in year 2 candidates must take a minimum of two SS and two PO units during the year.

  3. Year 3
    Eight units shall be studied and examined as follows: SS301

    Five further units shall be selected, two from the list of level 3 units in Sociology (SS303-SS352) and the other three from the list of level 3 units in Politics. As part of the final examination candidates will be required to submit a dissertation on an approved topic in either Politics or Sociology (PO/SS398/399 - 2 units).

    Note: In either semester candidates may select in lieu of an optional subject a unit from any other Social Sciences list (subject to prerequisites), provided that no more than two such units are taken in Years 2 and 3 overall. Where two such units are selected in Year 3 candidates must take a minimum of two PO and two SS units during the year.

  4. Each unit shall normally be examined in the semester in which it is taken. Second and third year units shall count towards the final examination.
