Regulations for the Schools of the Faculty:
Sociology & Social Policy (with Social Work Studies) (last entry 2000/1)
  1. The course of study is offered in conjunction with the BSc in Social Work and the Master of Social Work.

  2. In the first year (Part I) eight subjects will be studied and examined as follows:
    Semester one:
    SS101, SS103, ST107, PY203.
    Semester two:
    SS102, SS104, PY102 or PY104, SW102.

  3. Year 2
    A candidate who wishes to transfer from the three-year BSc (Social Sciences) in Sociology and Social Policy (with Social Work Studies) to the four year BSc in Social Work must apply to do so at the beginning of Year 2. Such candidates will then be interviewed to determine their suitability for professional social work. Successful candidates will subsequently be registered for the four year course. All other candidates will remain in registration for the three year course.
    Semester one:
    SS201, SS211, SS221, one unit from SS203, SS209, SS217, SS227.
    Semester two:
    SS220, ST222, SW204, PY210

    Note: In Year 2 students may, with the permission of their tutor, take one Semester 1 unit from SS202, SS204, SS214, SS222 in place of the optional unit in Semester 1.

  4. Year 3
    Semester one:
    SS301, SS303 and one unit from: SW301, or SW303 or SW307.
    Semester two:
    SW302 and two further approved units from the list of third year Sociology and Social Policy units offered in Semester 2 or other approved Social Sciences unit.
    Both semesters: Dissertation (SS398/399) (two units)

    Note: Students may take a maximum of two units from the general list of Social Science units in years 2 and 3 overall.
