1. The post-registration course leading to the degree of Bachelor (Honours) or the Diploma of Midwifery Studies shall normally be a part-time programme of a minimum of two academic years and a maximum of six years, part-time.
2. Candidates for admission to the course must satisfy the Regulations for Admission to Degree Course as specified in Section IV of the General Regulations, and
   1. effective registration with the UKCC as a midwife
   2. appropriate professional/vocational and academic study equivalent to 120 CAT credits at Level 1*.
   Admission to and continuation on the course is subject to specific status and health requirements. Students are required to inform the Head of School of any health or other problems relevant to their education and training or employment as a health professional. The right to refuse admission to the course shall be reserved to the Head of School.

3. In order to qualify for the Degree of Bachelor (Honours) or the Diploma of Midwifery Studies candidates must:
   1. have satisfied the entry requirements;
   2. have successfully completed an approved programme of study and passed all the required assessments and course work;
   3. and have fulfilled all English National Board requirements.

4. Normally, progress from one part of the course to the next will depend upon the successful completion of the appropriate assessment and course work requirements. Candidates are permitted two attempts at each assessment. Further attempts are not normally permitted.

5. The programme shall consist of core and optional modules of learning. Each module has a specified CAT rating and level*. Normally the award of Diploma in Midwifery Studies may be conferred if:
   1. the candidate has been in registration for a period of at least nine months and completed 120 credits at Level 2 of which 60 credits have been taught by the University of Southampton School of Nursing and Midwifery
   2. the candidate has demonstrated achievement of the learning outcomes of the core module at Level 2 or equivalent
   3. the candidate has effective registration on the appropriate part of the UKCC Professional Registration.

6. Candidates shall be examined by a variety of assessment methods. All assessments shall contribute to the final examination result.

7. A candidate who fails to satisfy the examiners will normally be re-examined within the following three months. Failure at re-examination will normally result in a recommendation for termination of course.

   The Degree of Bachelor of Midwifery Studies (Hons.) will be awarded to successful candidates as follows: First Class, Second Class (Upper Division), Second Class (Lower Division), and Third Class.
