Molecular Cell Biology

1. Programme requirements

A-level passes in two (preferably three) science subsubjects. If Chemistry is not offered at A-level then it must be offered at AS-level, two AS-level passes will be regarded as equivalent to one A-level in most circumstances.

A-level: three passes, two of which must be in science subjects. Geography, Mathematics and Mathematics with Statistics are counted as science subjects for this purpose. GCSE/O-level: Chemistry or Double Integrated Science if not offered at Advanced level.

All students must pass one of the above by end of year 2. Students with Mathematics of Statistics A-level are advised to take BS209, in year 1 if possible. Students with less numeracy skills or mathematical background should take MA152 or ST107 in year 1. Students who complete MA152 or ST107 in year 1 may also progress to BS209 in year 2.

Second year: ES201

3. Fieldwork requirements

All candidates are required to attend field courses of approximately one week in the Easter vacation of the first year and two weeks in the summer vacation after the second year.

BSc Environmental Sciences

1. Course requirements

A-level: three passes, two of which must be in science subjects. Geography, Mathematics and Mathematics with Statistics are counted as science subjects for this purpose. GCSE/O-level: Chemistry or Double Integrated Science (if not offered at A-level).

Honours School of Geography

Master of Geography (MGeog) (4 years)

1. Course requirements

A-level: Normally two As and a B at A-level, or points equivalent
GCSE/O-level: English Language; a pass in a modern language other than English (normally Grade A)

(a) All candidates are required to successfully complete a UK-based residential field course in the Easter vacation of the first year.

This programme is being discontinued with effect from 2002/2003.

BSc Geography

Fieldwork requirements

OA107: an introductory one-week course and two-day course in Geology

OA141: an introductory one-week course and two-day course in Geology, and a two-day field course in geophysical techniques

OA213A/B: a one-week course in marine biology (Oceanography with Marine Biology students only)

OA230: an eight-day training course in geological mapping, usually in the UK and a two-week course observing and recording data, usually in Spain

OA242: an eight-day training course in geological mapping, usually in the UK

OA306: a two-day field course in sedimentation

OA328: a two-week course in Oceanography, collecting samples and data, usually in Plymouth

OA396: a one-week mapping training class

OA397: a one-week mapping training class and five-weeks independent field mapping

OA403: a one-week course.

(b) A number of units include a commitment to local fieldwork, usually one or two days at weekends.

Master of Geology (MGeol) (4 years)

1. Course requirements
