  1. For the purposes of these regulations, which apply to all full-time students of the University, a lodging is accommodation where some meals are provided and rented accommodation covers rooms in flats or houses which are let on a self-catering basis. The Accommodation Office offers details of both types of accommodation.

  2. Single students without dependants under the age of majority, whose homes are not in the Southampton area, are required to live in a Hall of Residence.

  3. All students not living in a Hall of Residence must keep the Director of Student Services (through their School Office) and the Accommodation Office informed of their address during term time.

  4. Students in Halls of Residence are normally required to remain in residence for the whole Session. Students who wish to leave Hall must advise the Accommodation Office which will endeavour to replace them. If it has been possible to replace the student then the Accommodation Office will advise them of the date their contractual commitment ends. In cases of extreme hardship the Warden, in conjunction with the Accommodation Officer, after investigation of a student's financial position by the Finance Department, has the discretion, subject to the approval of the Director of Business and Community Services, to waive the full period of contract or proportion thereof.

  5. In those Halls which have a Junior Common Room or House Committee, the Junior Common Room or House Committee has the power to levy an annual subscription on all members, the amount of which is subject to the approval of the Director of Business and Community Services, the Warden or the Accommodation Officer as the case may be.

  6. Students are required to observe the Halls of Residence Regulations and Code of Conduct and Practice for Residents of the Hall in which they are resident.

  7. The University reserves the right to require a student to give up his/her room in Hall at any time for a breach of Hall Regulations. In such circumstances a refund of fees or other money paid by the student concerned may be made.
