BA Counselling and Psychotherapy (1542)
Regulations
- The BA Counselling will be awarded by Senate on the recommendation of the School Board to candidates who have satisfactorily completed a programme of part-time study, who have satisfied the examination requirements and who have met the minimum 80% attendance requirements for the award.
- The period of study will normally extend over two years.
- Applicants for admission to the award must normally hold a University of Southampton Diploma of Higher Education (Counselling), or equivalent qualifications/experience.
- In the case of applicants who do not hold a University of Southampton Counselling Diploma, up to 50% of the credits required to be awarded the BA Counselling may be attained through the transfer of credits or the accreditation of prior learning as approved by the School Board.
- The award consists of the units of learning listed below. Each unit of learning has a specified CATS rating in accordance with the CATS Guide and Regulations. To be eligible for the award of BA Counselling, candidates must normally complete units amounting to 360 credit points at a pass grade or above in each unit. Procedures for accreditation of prior learning may be used to provide up to 180 credits.
- Examination will be by assessment of written work, clinical practice and such other methods of examination as are approved by the School Board as appropriate to the programme. Candidates who have successfully completed the required units and any additional subject specific requirements will be recommended to Senate for the award of BA Counselling.
- Subject to the approval of the School Board, candidates who have been unsuccessful in the examination of any unit may normally submit themselves to be re-examined in that unit on one occasion only. The conditions for the re-examination of each candidate shall be prescribed by the School Board and no re-submission can earn more than 40%.

To complete the award you must successfully complete the requisite number of units as detailed. The course is normally studied over two years but you may take up to five years if necessary.

200 hours of supervised counselling practice; |

12 hours of consultative supervision. |
