General Regulations for the Postgraduate Certificate in English Language Teaching (online)

Admission

  1. The normal requirement for entry to the degree programme shall be a good honours degree or equivalent qualification in an appropriate subject awarded by an approved university and at least two years of subsequent, relevant teaching experience. Candidates with other qualifications may be admitted by the Board of the School of Humanities.
Structure
  1. The Postgraduate Certificate in ELT is normally studied over one year part-time but may also be taken on a less intensive basis for a period of two years. The one-year programme has two 16-week semesters running from September to January and February to May.

  2. A candidate is normally required to undertake the scheme of study within the time period specified by their mode of study. A candidate who suspends registration will be required to complete the scheme of study within three years of first registration.
Examination and Assessment
  1. All components of the scheme of study will be examined during and/or at the end of the period of study as specified by the British Council and/or the University of Southampton School of Humanities.

  2. In order to qualify for the award of Postgraduate Certificate in English Language Teaching, a candidate must pass all components of the scheme of study for the programme.

  3. A candidate who fails to satisfy the examiners in any unit on the first occasion will normally be permitted, on one occasion only, either to re-submit the assessment or to take supplementary examinations/assessment at dates specified by the British Council and/or the University of Southampton School of Humanities.
