Admissions |

The Programme follows the University Regulations for Admissions to Degree Programmes specified in Section IV of the University Calendar.
Candidates must satisfy the general entrance requirements specified in the University’s Regulations for Admission to Degree Programmes. The normal entry for the programme shall be a good honours degree or equivalent qualification in an appropriate subject awarded by an approved university and at least two years of subsequent, relevant teaching experience.
We also welcome applicants with other qualifications (e.g. Irish Leaving Certificate, Scottish Higher, Welsh Baccalaureates, AGNVQ, etc.). Such applicants will be reviewed individually. Equivalent levels of performance in other internationally recognised qualifications (including the European Baccalaureate, the French Baccalaureate, the German Abitur and the Irish Leaving Certificate) are also acceptable.
Candidates whose first language is not English are required to reach a satisfactory standard in an approved test in English.
Mature students [over 21 years old] without any of the above qualifications are encouraged to apply if recent successful study has been undertaken at an appropriate level.
All individuals are selected and treated on their relative merits and abilities in line with the University’s Equal Opportunities Policy. Disabled applicants will be treated according to the same procedure as any other applicant with the added involvement of the Disability Office to assess their needs. |

Structure of Programme(s) |

The Programme follows the University regulations specified in Section IV of the University Calendar.
The Postgraduate Certificate in ELT (Online) is normally studied over one year part-time but may also be taken on a less intensive basis for a period of two years. The one-year programme has two 16 week semesters running from September to January and February to May.
A candidate is normally required to undertake the scheme of study within the time period specified by their mode of study. A candidate who suspends registration will be required to complete the scheme of study within three years of first registration. |

Assessment |

The Programme follows the University Regulations for Progression, Determination and Classification of Results specified in Section IV of the University Calendar.
All components of the scheme of study will be examined during and/or at the end of the period of study as specified by the British Council and/or the University of Southampton, Faculty of Humanities.
A candidate who fails to satisfy the examiners in any module on the first occasion will normally be permitted on one occasion only, either to resubmit the assessment or to take supplementary examiners/assessments at dates specified by the British Council and/or the Faculty of Humanities. |

Award of Qualification(s) |

The Programme follows the University Regulations for Progression, Determination and Classification of Results specified in Section IV of the University Calendar.
In order to qualify for the award of Postgraduate Certificate in English Language Teaching (Online) a candidate must pass all components of the scheme of study for the programme.
The final award is awarded by Senate on the recommendation of the Faculty to candidates who have satisfactorily completed an approved course of study and have satisfied the assessment requirements. |
