Last modified July 2014

Reference should be made to the University's General Regulations found in Section IV and Section V (Higher Degree Regulations) of the University Calendar.

Except where an opt-out has been granted by the University (see below) the following academic regulations apply in addition to the General Regulations.

1. Admissions

1.1 Specific entry criteria are detailed in the Programme Specifications.

2. Structure of Programme(s)

2.1 All undergraduate programmes are full-time.
2.2 Core, compulsory and optional modules for all degree programmes are listed in the Programme Specifications. All pre-requisites and assessments are documented in the module specifications. Specifically, all Part I modules in Acoustical Engineering are core.
2.3 Students who transfer from an MEng programme to a BEng programme will not normally be permitted to transfer back to an MEng programme.
2.4 Students must select their options for each semester of study before the start of the semester on or before the options deadline as notified by the Student Office.
2.5 It is the responsibility of each student to ensure that the combination of modules they have selected is valid and meets the requirements of their programme of study.
2.6 Students may change their selection up to week two of the semester. Students changing their selection after the options deadline are responsible for checking that there are no timetable clashes.

3. Progression

3.1 The Progression Regulations are as given in the University Calendar Section IV.
3.2 MEng students are required to achieve an average mark of 55% in Part II and 55% in Part III.

4. Assessment

4.1 Assessment of examinations and coursework is in accordance with University regulations (see University Calendar Section IV).
4.2 When students repeat modules externally, it may be impractical for them to undertake the normal assessment activities, for example assessed laboratory or group work. In such cases where external repeat is permitted they will be provided with an alternative but equivalent form of assessment which will meet the required learning outcomes.

5. Award of Qualification(s)

5.1 The final award is awarded by Senate on the recommendation of the Faculty Programmes Committee to candidates who have satisfactorily completed an approved course of study and have satisfied the assessment requirements as detailed in the regulations and the Programme Specification.

6. Placements/Study Abroad/Exchange/Fieldwork

6.1 Industrial placement
For students commencing their programme of study prior to October 2014, the MEng degree normally requires two 10-week industrial placements to be undertaken, one at the end of Part II and one at the end of Part III. These industrial placements are assessed on a pass/fail basis by the Industrial Liaison Tutor on recommendations from the student's Personal Tutor and the Iindustrial Mentor. Students who fail a work placement will either be required to undertake a new work placement or exit with the award of BEng.

7. Other

7.1 These regulations may be revised during the student's period of registration in accordance with the procedures approved by Senate.
7.2 Candidates are required to satisfy the academic and attendance requirements of the programme as laid out in the Programme Specification and the Student Handbook for the programme. Those failing to do so may have their enrolment on a programme terminated.
