Reference should be made to the University's General Regulations found in Section IV and Section V (Higher Degree Regulations) of the University Calendar.

Except where an opt-out has been granted by the University (see below) the following academic regulations apply in addition to the General Regulations.

1. Admissions

1.1 For admission to any programme candidates must satisfy the Regulations for Admission to Degree Programmes as specified in Section IV of the University Calendar.
1.2 Specific information regarding the level of English proficiency required for each programme is included in the prospectus and on the Southampton Business School Website.
1.3 All individuals are selected and treated on their relative merits and abilities in line with the University’s Equal Opportunities Policy. Disabled applicants will be treated according to the same procedure as any other applicant with the added involvement of the Enabling Services Office to assess their needs.
1.4 Recognition of prior learning. If candidates have completed modules at other places of learning and can demonstrate the equivalence of their learning outcomes to a relevant module of the programme, the Southampton Business School may permit such a candidate to join a degree programme at an appropriate part. Such admissions must also comply with the University's regulations on credit transfer.

2. Structure of Programme(s)

2.1 Programmes are taken on a full time basis over a three, or four year period.
2.2 The degree consists of three levels of study with a mixture of core, compulsory and optional modules at all levels. Optional modules are normally chosen in consultation with the personal tutor and are subject to availability. Students must select their options for each semester of study before the options deadline.
2.3 Students studying BSc International Marketing will normally undertake study abroad for one year following the second year of study.
2.4 Students studying BSc Marketing with Placement, BSc Accounting and Finance with Placement, BSc Business Management with Placement, BSc Business Innovation with Placement, BSc Business Analytics with Placement, BSc Business Entrepreneurship with Placement, BSc Business Philosophy with Placement and BSc Business History with Placement will undertake an industrial placement for one year following the second year of study.
2.5 The programme structure and module information are detailed in the programme specification and on the Southampton Business School website.

3. Progression

3.1 In order to progress within the degree programme, students must satisfy the regulations governing the Progression, Determination and Classification of Results: Undergraduate and Integrated Masters Programmes as set out in Section IV of the University Calendar.
3.2 Students are not permitted to repeat a placement year. Failure of the placement year, following referral, will result in transfer to the equivalent three year programme, without placement.

4. Assessment

4.1 The performance of candidates shall be assessed by the Board of Examiners in accordance with the University's Regulations Governing Examinations, and are subject to confirmation by the School.
4.2 When students repeat modules externally, it may be impractical for them to undertake the normal assessment activities, for example in the case of a module with assessed by presentation or group work. In such cases, the Business School will provide an alternative but equivalent form of assessment

5. Award of Qualification(s)

5.1 Qualifications are awarded according to the University Regulations for the Progression, Determination and Classification of Results: Undergraduate and Integrated Masters Programmes specified in Section IV of the University Calendar.

6. Placements/Study Abroad/Exchange/Fieldwork

6.1 Study abroad or exchanges may be available for certain programmes: please refer to Programme handbooks.
6.2 Students studying BSc International Marketing are required to pass the year of study abroad as determined by the Institution of Study to progress to the final year of the programme.
6.3 Students studying BSc Marketing with Placement, BSc Accounting and Finance with Placement, BSc Business Management with Placement, BSc Business Innovation with Placement, BSc Business Analytics with Placement, BSc Business Entrepreneurship with Placement, BSc Business Philosophy with Placement and BSc Business History with Placement are required to satisfy the requirements of the industrial placement year to progress to the final year of the programme. Students failing the industrial placement year will be transferred to the relevant three year Programme, without placement.

7. Other

7.1 As a research-led University, we undertake a continuous review of our programmes to ensure quality enhancement and to manage our resources. As a result, these regulations may be revised during a student’s period of registration, however, any revision will be balanced against the requirement that the student should receive the educational service expected. Please read our Disclaimer to see why, when and how changes may be made to a student’s programme.
7.2 Students are required to satisfy the academic and the Attendance and Completion of Programme Requirements as set out in section IV of the University calendar, the programme specification and the programme handbook. Those students failing to do so may have their course terminated (see University Calendar Section IV: Transfer, Suspension, Withdrawal and Termination).
7.3 Ethics Committee approval and risk assessments must be completed where required.
