Except where an opt-out has been granted by the University (see below) the following academic regulations apply in addition to the General Regulations.

1. Admissions

1.1 The Programmes follow the University regulations specified in Section IV : Regulations for Admission to Degree Programmes. Specific information regarding the entry requirement for the Law School programmes can be found on the Law School website.
1.2 Specific information regarding the level of English proficiency required for each programme is included in the prospectus and on the Law School website.
1.3 All individuals are selected and treated on their relative merits and abilities in line with the University's Equal Opportunities Policy. Disabled applicants will be treated according to the same procedure as any other applicant with the added involvement of the Enabling Services Office to assess their needs.
1.4 Recognition of prior learning. If candidates have completed modules at other places of learning and can demonstrate the equivalence of their learning outcomes to a relevant module of the programme, the Law School may permit such a candidate to join a degree programme at an appropriate part. Such admissions must also comply with the University's regulations on credit transfer.

2. Structure of Programme(s)

2.1 Mode of attendance shall be by full-time study in not less than 12 months and part-time study in not less than 24 months.
2.2 The programme shall consist of the submission of a dissertation and completion of Core and Optional Core taught modules. The availability of modules is dependent on staffing and timetabling constraints and it cannot be guaranteed that every module will be available in any particular year. Additional modules may be made available from time to time. It may be necessary to limit the number of candidates taking a particular module.
2.3 Programme structure and module information are detailed in the programme specification and on the Law School website.

3. Progression

3.1 The programme consists of Core and Optional Core modules. Compensation does not apply.
3.2 In order to be awarded credit for a module, the module must be passed at the specified module pass mark. For Standalone Masters programmes the University standard pass mark at all levels will be 50%.

4. Assessment

4.1 The performance of candidates shall be assessed by the Board of Examiners in accordance with the University’s Regulations Governing Examinations and are subject to confirmation by the School.
4.2 All modules and the dissertation must be passed in order to qualify for the award of MSc. Compensation does not apply.
4.3 A student may take referral assessments in failed modules totalling not more than 30 ECTS [60 CATS].

5. Award of Qualification(s)

5.1 Qualifications are awarded according to the University Regulations for the Progression, Determination and Classification of Results: Standalone Masters Programmes specified in Section IV of the University Calendar.

6. Placements/Study Abroad/Exchange/Fieldwork

Not applicable for this programme.

7. Other

7.1 As a research-led University, we undertake a continuous review of our programmes to ensure quality enhancement and to manage our resources. As a result, these regulations may be revised during a student’s period of registration, however, any revision will be balanced against the requirement that the student should receive the educational service expected. Please read our Disclaimer to see why, when and how changes may be made to a student’s programme.
7.2 Students are required to satisfy the academic and the Attendance and Completion of Programme Requirements as set out in section IV of the University calendar, the programme specification and the programme handbook. Those students failing to do so may have their course terminated (see University Calendar Section IV: Transfer, Suspension, Withdrawal and Termination). Attendance may be monitored.
