Reference should be made to the University's General Regulations found in Section IV and Section V (Higher Degree Regulations) of the University Calendar.

Except where an opt-out has been granted by the University (see below) the following academic regulations apply in addition to the General Regulations.

Admissions

1.1	Specific entry criteria are detailed in the Programme Specification.
1.2	The MSc Coastal and Marine Engineering and Management (COMEM) is an Erasmus Mundus programme, both COMEM and MSc Marine Technology (MTech) are collaborative programmes and do not receive direct applications.
1.3	Health and Disclosure and Barring Service checks All offers for MSc Audiology and MSc Audiology (with Clinical Placement) have the compulsory condition of satisfactory outcomes from an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and an Occupational Health (OH) check.
1.4	Suitable applicants may be asked to attend an open day or interview.

Structure of Programme(s)

2.1	All programmes except for the MSc Civil Engineering/MSc Civil Engineering (with Industrial Placement) and the MSc Energy and Sustainability programmes are offered on both full-time and part-time basis. MSc Marine Technology is offered on a part-time basis only.
2.2	Full-time MSc degrees require 12 months of study.
2.3	Part-time MSc degrees require a minimum enrolment period of two years and up to a maximum enrolment period of four years.
2.4	The MSc Civil Engineering (with Industrial Placement) is a full-time degree requiring 20 months of study – 9 months taught element /11 months industrial placement.
2.5	The structure of the programme including details of core, compulsory and optional modules is given in the Programme Specification.
2.6	Students must select their options for each semester of study before the start of the semester on or before the options deadline as notified by the Student Office.
2.7	It is the responsibility of each student to ensure that the combination of modules they have selected is valid and meets the requirements of their programme of study.
2.8	Students may change their selection up to week two of the semester. Students changing their selection after the options deadline are responsible for checking that there are no timetable clashes.

Progression

3.1	Standard University progression rules for Standalone Masters apply as detailed in Section IV of the University Calendar.

Assessment

4.1

Assessment of examinations and coursework is in accordance with University regulations (see University Calendar Section IV).

When students repeat modules externally, it may be impractical for them to undertake the normal assessment activities, for example assessed laboratory or group work. In such cases where external repeat is permitted, the Faculty will provide an alternative but equivalent form of assessment which will meet the required learning outcomes.

Award of Qualification(s)

5.1	The final award is awarded by Senate on the recommendation of the Faculty Programmes Committee to candidates who have satisfactorily completed an approved course of study and have satisfied the assessment requirements as detailed in the regulations and the Programme Specification.

Placements/Study Abroad/Exchange/Fieldwork

6.1	All industrial sponsors providing placement opportunities on the MSc Civil Engineering (with Industrial Placement) have to provide evidence of adequate Health and Safety Policy and Insurance.

7.1

As a research-led University, we undertake a continuous review of our programmes to ensure quality enhancement and to manage our resources. As a result, these regulations may be revised during a student’s period of registration, however, any revision will be balanced against the requirement that the student should receive the educational service expected. 7.2

Candidates are required to satisfy the academic and attendance requirements of the programme as laid out in the Programme Specification. Those failing to do so may have their enrolment on a programme terminated.
