Reference should be made to the University's General Regulations found in Section IV and Section V (Higher Degree Regulations) of the University Calendar.

Except where an opt-out has been granted by the University (see below) the following academic regulations apply in addition to the General Regulations.

1. Admissions

1.1

Entry Requirements
This programme is offered by the University of Southampton and Associated Colleges as a progression route for students who have successfully completed the Certificate in Education (PCET) or an appropriate Foundation Degree and who wish to progress with their studies onto Honours degree level.

Direct Entry: The programme is the equivalent of a one year full time programme at degree level 6. It assumes that students applying directly for entry to the programme will have completed work equivalent to the first two years of a full time honours degree and have gained 240 CATS (120 ECTS), as in the case of a Foundation Degree.

Exceptional Entry: Students who have achieved the Certificate in Education (PCET) from the University of Southampton or its equivalent must show evidence of additional level 5 study of at least one-year full time, or equivalent. Possession of Higher National Diploma or Higher National Certificate would be an example. Students without this evidence may undertake a “bridging” module to a minimum value of 20 CATS (10 ECTS) at Level 5. Students may present other awards for consideration and each of these will be considered on its merits.

1.2 Disclosure and Barring Service
Although a DBS check is not a prerequisite of enrolment on the Programme, it is highly advisable given that some assignments involve a visit to establishments where vulnerable adults are taught.
1.3 Equal Opportunities
All individuals are selected and treated on their relative merits and abilities in line with the University's Equal Opportunities Policy. Disabled applicants will be treated according to the same procedure as any other applicant with the added involvement of the Enabling Services Office to assess their needs.

2. Structure of Programme(s)

2.1 Modes of Study
The programme is normally studied part-time over two academic years. Exceptionally students may be permitted to undertake the programme, full-time, over one academic year. Permission is at the discretion of the Head of School on the advice of the Programme Director and Board of Studies.
2.2 Levels of Study
The BA (Hons) is structured across one academic level of study, level 6. Successful completion of the Programme confers 120 CATS (60 ECTS) at this Level.

3. Progression

Students must satisfy the regulations governing the Progression, Determination and Classification of Results: Undergraduate and Integrated Masters Programmes as set out in Section IV of the University Calendar.

4. Assessment

4.1 The performance of students shall be assessed by the Board of Examiners in accordance with the regulations governing the Progression, Determination and Classification of Results: Undergraduate and Integrated Masters Programmes as set out in Section IV of the University Calendar.
